Barbara Hunt Women Leaders of FBOs: Barbara Hunt, VP of Business Operation, Advanced Air, LLC/Jet Center Los Angeles
Our Q&A Session with Barbara Hunt, VP of Business Operation, Advanced Air, LLC/Jet Center Los Angeles
WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?
"Armed with a B. S. in Marketing, I ventured directly into the Service Industry acting as the Director of Sales for a chain hotel in Colorado. Then, in my mid-20’s, seeking more adventure and professional stimulation, I moved west, landing in Southern California, and began working for a small group of aviation professionals. As the office manager supporting three aviation executives, I learned the business from the bottom up and assisted in growing a small business into a viable, full service aviation company. This was the beginning of what has been a completely stimulating and rewarding 30-year+ aviation career that has included roles in Operations, Logistics, Charter, Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Customer Service and Client Relations, Aircraft Sales Administration, Accounting and Finance. Along the way, I encountered Levi Stockton early in his flying career and, in 2017, joined his diverse team of true aviation entrepreneurs. Today I find both adventure and fulfillment in my role as VP of Business Operations at Advanced Air LLC/Jet Center Los Angeles where we create opportunities and venture outside the box on a daily basis."
SO WHAT'S YOUR LIFE LIKE OUTSIDE THE FBO?
"Ever the busy traveler, even a pandemic has not been able to keep me sedentary. Rather, it has just altered my destinations and mode of travel. Airline flights to foreign countries have been exchanged for road trips to camping and hiking venues. My friends are family and my family are friends so we’ve kept our gatherings small, yet interesting and entertaining. A perfect quiet weekend is spent hiking, doing yoga and relaxing with friends and family."
TELL US SOMETHING THAT NO ONE WOULD GUESS ABOUT YOU.
"If I went back in time and had to choose another career path, I would want to be an elementary school teacher. Maybe it’s a way to inspire and influence the development of good humans early on in their young lives?"
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING & WHY?
"This is a particularly difficult question as several important quotes come to mind, each influential in its own right.
First, I try to live by The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz:
• Be Impeccable With Your Word.
• Don't Take Anything Personally.
• Don't Make Assumptions.
• Always Do Your Best.
These wise agreements remind me that words are powerful and only I am in control of my words, feelings, and actions. If I know I am consistently doing my best, I avoid self-judgement and regret.
My second favorite quote actually comes from a song, Humble And Kind by Tim McGraw:
When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around and help the next one in line.
I’ve been blessed with education and opportunities that not everyone has and I have a responsibility to make a difference for someone else.
Last, but not least, when I heard Amanda Gorman recite her poem The Hill We Climb, this quote was immediately added to my favorite’s list:
“It’s because being American is more than a pride we inherit. It’s the past we step into and how we repair it. As Americans we have come far AND we still have far to go to repair inequalities."
