Women Leaders of FBOs: Cheryl Dissing of Maverick Air Center, Sioux Falls, SD
2021.03.24
Cheryl Dissing, Business Development Manager, Maverick Air Center
WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?
"I started working in aviation in 1998. After about 5 years, I went another direction…working in the ethanol industry, in the lab settings utilizing my chemistry degree. Then aviation presented itself again and I’ve been with Maverick Air Center since start-up in Oct 2011. Started in the capacity of Customer Service. Then became the Lead Office Coordinator and added to my role, the Corporate Flight Coordinator, for our parent company, Sanford Health. In Feb 2020, I took on my current role."
SO WHAT'S YOUR LIFE LIKE OUTSIDE THE FBO?
I am married and have a Little that will start Kindergarten this fall. We love camping (no tent here) and being outdoors. The solitude and adventure is fulfilling.
TELL US SOMETHING THAT NO ONE WOULD GUESS ABOUT YOU.
A couple things, I think… I am naturally a social introvert! Weird, I know! I love the interaction with customers/vendors, because I can make that ‘moment’ with them a positive one. I am comfortable in very small groups, or very large groups, like speaking engagements. It’s the groups where I may become the focus, for a moment, which I don’t enjoy (but will endure!) .....And I used to have 4 turtles!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYING & WHY?
Not really a quote/saying, but rather an embraced belief… ‘Trust the wait. Trust the timing in your life. It’s mine and only mine; not a race with anyone else.’ Lots of personal reasons for believing this, but a lot of times, since I was pretty young, I’ve felt ‘late’ for opportunities. Knowing and trusting that it’s mine; my direction over speed, and quality over quantity, that I’m now comfortable.
